The Making of a Disciple!
Scripture Meditation:
Matthew 28:19-20; “Therefore Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples
to obey all commands I have given you. And be sure of this, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NLT)
Jesus gave us this charge! The scripture suggests that discipleship is NOT Automatic! A disciple must be made. It requires a process of intentional
events that must occur which encompasses the very essence of what a true disciple IS! A disciple is a student, a learner, a pupil, and a follower of Jesus Christ.
To follow Jesus requires a willingness to accept His teachings and implement them into your daily life. In other words, it is not just enough to know what to do, we must DO what we know to do.
In the Gospel of Matthew 16:24 Jesus teaches, “…If any of you wants to be my follower, you must turn from your selfish ways, take up your cross, and follow me.”(NLT)
This denotes a commitment that requires forsaking self & others, bearing a cross, and counting the costs (Luke14:25-33).
Some may think that a disciple needs to wear a robe, have a collar, a servant pin, a name tag, a title, or something spiritually religious to distinguish them as a disciple.
But the truth is, that is not a requirement at all according to Jesus. In this season God may just cross over some of those that LOOK like disciples to accomplish His work. So don’t count yourself out just yet-God wants to use you, He has called you, He has commissioned YOU to go into all the world and make disciples!
Here are seven ingredients that are needed for the making of a disciple:
Prayer: Lord, thank you for giving us an example of what a true disciple should be. We ask that through your Spirit, help us as your disciples and your servants to bathe in the truth of Your Word with all diligence, recognizing that when it is all said and done, our assignment is to ‘Go into all the world and make disciples…’. Thank you for being with us always even until the end the world, as we Go, Protect us and keep us, In Jesus Name we pray, AMEN!
